The BBC describes how Palestinian Arabs study:

Several people have been hurt in Gaza City in clashes between rival groups of students supporting ruling Palestinian party Hamas or their opponents, Fatah.

The two sides fought around their campuses, throwing stones and homemade explosives and exchanging gunfire. . . .

At least 15 people were wounded in the fighting in Gaza City, which involved students from two of the city's universities.

Al-Azhar University is dominated by Fatah and the Islamic University--by Hamas.

Well, we can all suppose "you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggheads". I would definetly approach these eggheads with the concept of playing a rivalry football game every year (say at about October-November timeframe)charge admission and create a huge administrative nightmare organization and call it the NCAAP (Palestinian style). What everyone does with this idea keeps these morons away from the "Home made" explosives. It just doesn't taste good after an intense football game... they should try beer for a change!!!

ECO_TERRORISM IN OUR OWN HOMELAND
Apparently what happened at UC Santa Cruz campus concerning the Military Recruiters was just the tip of the iceberg.

The same people that threw rocks at military recruiters and threatened students inquiring about working for our country have been terrorozing the Santa Cruz area. The report below came from the local ABC affliate:

Apr. 17 - KGO - Santa Cruz police have alerted the FBI about a radical group of vandals. More than a dozen
families and their SUV's are victims of what's being described as eco-terrorism.

Andrea Muzzi is replacing all four tires on her brand new SUV. Vandals slashed the original tires Saturday
night. Andrea says she came face to face with as many as 40 men, dressed in black and riding bikes.

Andrea Muzzi, victim: "They all had on black hoods, black trench coats or black beanies & basically black
upper attire and they were a frightening scary mob."

Police say the group targeted the west side of Santa Cruz, damaging at least 15 SUV's, trucks and hummers.

Two of those vehicles belonged to Mike Iannuzzo.

Mike Iannuzzo, victim: "I went out looking for them. I was that mad. I was ready to get somebody to bring
them down and let them know that this was wrong." Not only were tires slashed but the vandals
spray-painted a number of the vehicles with messages such as "oil equals blood" and "guzzler."

People reported similar attacks last week in the area of UC Santa Cruz. Police say they've alerted the FBI
and are working every lead but so far no one has claimed responsibility and there are no suspects.

Lt. Rick Martinez, Santa Cruz police dept.: "Clearly the group has been organized and it was an organized
political or activist sort of event and that was the message behind the vandalism."

While Santa Cruz is known for its liberal politics, everyday environmentalists denounce the recent crimes
saying the slashed tires end up in landfills and real people are hurt.

Andy Harris, Santa Cruz: "I think people should ride public transportation. I think they should ride bikes,
but I don't think people should slash other people's tires. I think it just makes it into a bigger mess and
it's counter productive."

Andrea Muzzi and other victims hope the people responsible are caught. If so, they face felony
vandalism charges.

These small minded punks diminish the rights we all enjoy in our society by vandalizing needlessly the property of hard-working Americans. These are the same people that are going to drown out the speech of smart Americans with their mindless drivel and lame rhetoric. Ignorance such as that demonstrated by these “Eco-Bandits” deserves to be ignored until they GROW UP!!!!!

UC SANTA CRUZ RESPONDS TO MY LETTER

In response to my earlier letter sent to Ms. Denice D. Denton at the
Office of Chancellor for UC Santa Cruz, a message was recently posted. Here is the link:

http://messages.ucsc.edu/05-06/04-13.protest.asp

A quick summary is attached:

On April 11, at the UC Santa Cruz Career Fair, a small group of individuals violated the principles they claimed to embrace – those of peaceful assembly and freedom of speech. In using threatening and aggressive tactics to prevent interested students from contacting military recruiters, these protesters infringed on the rights of others and acted with intimidation, intolerance and disrespect. Many did so with their faces covered, unwilling to take public responsibility for their actions.

The university, like any public body, has established guidelines that protect rights of freedom of speech, expression and assembly. Moreover, this campus provides in its Principles of Community a clear statement of standards for behavior that it expects of all its members, including the expectation that reasoned discourse includes a free exchange of ideas with mutual respect and consideration of differences.

Despite repeated efforts to engage with the Students Against War group, to discuss the time, place, and manner in which their protest could occur safely, the group declined to communicate further. A letter to them on March 27 reiterated the desire to collaborate, but there was no response from the group.

We are extremely concerned by the behaviors of the approximately 75 protesters, whose actions are not consistent with the values of our campus community, including 15,000 students. We apologize on behalf of the campus to those whose rights were violated, and we will take appropriate disciplinary action against students who are found to have been in violation of campus policies.

AN OPEN LETTER TO UC SANTA CRUZ

"Four military recruiters hastily fled a job fair Tuesday morning at UC Santa Cruz after a raucous crowd of student protesters blocked an entrance to the building where the Army and National Guard had set up information tables," the San Francisco Chronicle reports:

Members of Students Against War, who organized the counter-recruiting protest, loudly chanted "Don't come back. Don't come back" as the recruiters left the hilltop campus, escorted by several university police officers.

"The situation had degraded to the point where there was a possibility of injury to either a student or law enforcement officer. We certainly didn't want that to happen,'' said Capt. Will Griffin, one of the Army recruiters. . . .

Universities that receive federal funds are required to allow military recruiters on campus. But campus officials had worried that Tuesday's protest would get out of hand as it had last April, when Students Against War protesters surrounded the table where military personnel sat, and hundreds of other demonstrators engaged in an angry protest outside. Some of the recruiters reported that their tires had been slashed and one employee at the career center was injured.

David Kliger, campus provost and executive vice chancellor, said the school was most concerned Tuesday about safety issues, but also wanted to preserve access to the recruiters for students who wanted to speak with them, while still allowing protesting students their right to free speech.

The Colorado-based Mountain States Legal Foundation is calling on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to invoke the Solomon Amendment and deny federal funding to UC Santa Cruz, which received $80 million of our money from Washington last year.

This sounds reasonable to me. Of course the Students Against War have a perfect right to speak their minds, but that right is not a license to engage in violence and intimidation. The threat of a loss of federal money could be a good spur to university officials to quit tolerating this sort of behavior.

After hearing about the incident I took the time to write Ms. Denice D. Denton at the
Office of Chancellor for UC Santa Cruz. The letter goes as follows:

As a proud UCLA Alumuni I was both shocked and horrified by the crass and hateful display of shown by some students at the University of California, Santa Cruz towards recruiters on your campus. To quote the Santa Cruz Sentinel:

Military recruiters packed up their displays and left a UC Santa Cruz job fair Tuesday after several protesters attempted to force themselves inside the fair while others blocked the entrance over the course of a tense hour-long standoff... the four recruiters from the Army and National Guard reversed an earlier decision to remain at the fair in a room separated from other job recruiters and protected by more than a dozen campus police.

Further reports mention how the Army recruiters were treated : "As recruiters drove off, a rock was allegedly thrown at their SUV. An officer began to persue the alleged rock-thrower, and a legal observer with a camera also took chase. Kot Hordinski, the legal observer, was then arrested for "obstruction." He was released after about fifteen minutes.

Students Against War organizers, and most participants agreed the action was a success. For the third time in a row, military recruiters were confronted by large protests. The goal of getting military recruiters off campus, was reached yet agian. Many are now left wondering if military recruiters will dare to return in the fall for the next UCSC Career Fair. "

This amounts to hateful speech and the very discrimination many in the past sacrificed and even died to ensure we all had removed from our nation. This kind of ignorance cannot continue in any of our UC campuses.
